We paid a visit to a village produce
market
These elaborate flower garlands are
used as offerings to the Gods. They cost around 50 rupees each (50
pence). More expensive ones will contain roses etc., these were
mainly marigolds and other local flowers.
And not much explanation needed for the
following pics – just a riot of colours and smells (some nicer than
others)!

On arrival at our hotel in Madurai I loved this display of local flowers floating in an ornamental bowl in the lobby

Right that's up to date for now.
We have free wifi here ... except the hotel had a problem with the line all afternoon so I prepared everything offline earlier and posted it tonight. We have a busy day tomorrow
Love the market. I would love to have been food buying there. Nice view from your balcony.
ReplyDeleteYour accommodations look very nice and clean and more luxurious than I'd thought from other things you've said.
ReplyDeleteI like the floating flowers too - I know the plumeria but not the white ones with the blue centers nor the lavender ones. Very pretty.
The markets were lovely Jo - the sort of place I wanted to see close-up.
ReplyDeleteOur hotels have been good throughout - from modern business/Radisson type hotels to rural cottage/bungalow type lodges. All have been air conditioned and with modern en-suite facilities, most had pools and recreation area/gyms (not that we used these). Even the houseboats had aircon and good bathrooms. The hot water and electricity supply was a little erratic in some of the rural locations but all part of the experience and nowhere was dirty or unsavoury
